BAVO recognised for excellent work with volunteers
Date published: 02/06/2017
BAVO has once again achieved the Investing in Volunteers quality standard, in recognition of the excellent work we do with volunteers.
Managed in Wales by Wales Council for Voluntary Action, Investing in Volunteers is the UK quality standard for organisations involving volunteers. The award aims to improve the quality of the volunteering experience for volunteers and to encourage organisations to better recognise the enormous contribution made by volunteers.
BAVO was assessed against a range of best practice standards and proved to excel in all aspects of working with our volunteers. Volunteering is the core to BAVO’s organisation, one of our volunteers said: “BAVO has shown me that people who volunteer are important and valued” and “I feel part of the organisation. I am regularly asked for feedback and feel my opinions matter.”
Volunteers provide a much needed support within the community. BAVO’s Chief Executive Heidi Bennett said: “BAVO aims to lead by example. Making sure volunteers are valued and respected for the work they do is vitally important and I am delighted that our standards of quality in supporting and developing volunteers have been maintained and recognised.”
Further information on the Investing in Volunteers quality standard can be found at www.investinginvolunteers.org.uk
You can find what volunteering opportunities are available by visiting BAVO’s Bridgend Volunteer Centre at 2 Queen Street, Bridgend town centre. BAVO has over 300 registered voluntary organisations with a wide range of volunteering opportunities. Through one-to-one informal interviews you can match your skills and interests to a vacancy that best suits you. A recent volunteer who was helped by BAVO said: “I attended the centre to discuss the possibility of volunteering. They discussed various opportunities with me and I now volunteer with three different organisations, I love it.”
