Siaradda seminars are very relaxed and friendly. You will have the opportunity to be active in discussion or to sit and listen. …there are no tests!!

Session One: Language and communication
Wednesday 12 September 2018 from 9.30am - 2.30pm

Session wiill cover:

  • ASD myths and facts;
  • Communication chain;
  • Language components;
  • Receptive – expressive;
  • Incidental learning.

Session Two: Social Impairment
Wednesday 26 September 2018 from 9.30am - 2.30pm

Session will cover:

  • Pragmatics / incidental learning;
  • Managing expectations / self-esteem and self-awareness;
  • Isolation / forming friendships;
  • Healthy and unhealthy relationships i.e. Mate Crime;
  • Building resilience and confidence;
  • Practical strategies for engaging young people.

Session Three: Rigidity of thought and behaviour
Wednesday 10 October 2018 from 9.30am - 2.30pm

Session will cover:

  • Obsessions / routines / control;
  • Predictability: what’s going to happen next?
  • Preparing for change;
  • Practical strategies using visual aides.

Session Four: Managing challenging behaviour
Wednesday 24 October 2018 from 9.30am - 2.30pm

Session will cover:

  • Anger / aggression / non-compliance;
  • Explore triggers and cues; Reflective thinking; 
  • De-escalation techniques.

Session Five: Developing young person - Part One
Wednesday 14 November 2018 from 9.30am - 2.30pm

Session will include:

  • Physical development;
  • Emotional development;
  • Social development;
  • Sexual development;
  • Incidental learning and healthy development.

Session Six: Developing young person - Part Two
Wednesday 28 November 2018 from 9.30am - 2.30pm

  • Sex education and sexual health;
  • Eating disorders and body image;
  • Sexuality and gender dysphoria;
  • Substance misuse and addiction;
  • Puberty.

Session Seven: Autism profiles - Part One

  • Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA);
  • ADHD;
  • Other related conditions;
  • Vulnerabilities / criminal justice system.

Session Eight - Autism profiles - Part Two

  • Autism and girls;
  • Attachment.

Session Nine: Mental health
Wednesday 30 January 2019 from 9.30am - 2.30pm

Session will cover:

  • Signs and symptoms;
  • Depression;
  • Self-harm / suicide;
  • Generalised anxiety disorder;
  • Strategies to developing healthy emotional wellbeing.
