This one-day workshop will introduce the basics of the legal framework to consider when thinking and talking about disability and disabled people. It will cover how disability is defined, how attitudes towards disability have changed over time and how language, societal attitudes and stereotypes create barriers to inclusion for disabled people.
The course will demonstrate how disabled people are marginalised and discriminated against through interactive plays and powerful films which reveal how disabled people experience society, what barriers they face and how they can be overcome by us.
By the end of the session you will:
- Get an honest and open learning session from those who have experienced disability;
- Learn the difference between different definitions of disability and how they can create and diminish barriers;
- Understand what barriers disabled people face in society and understand how you can help to reduce these;
- Feel more confident when talking to disabled people.
20% of the UK population have a disability or long term health condition so we need to become more inclusive. This course will help you to do that.
