Up to 100 runners of all ages and abilities turned up in their Christmas jumpers, hats and elf and reindeer outfits for the recent annual Yr Hen Blwyf’s Christmas Santa 2km and 5km Fun Run in Maesteg.
As part of the Lynfi Valley 20 Project, BAVO was pleased to support the third Santa Fun Run, which was set up as part of developing a Maesteg parkrun which now has on average 55 runners a week, collectively covering over 18865km.
The Llynfi Valley 20 Project was set up following a report by Public Health Wales which identified that those living in the Llynfi Valley have 20 years less healthy life expectancy compared to the rest of the county borough. BAVO with partners, wanted to change this. The Santa Fun Run is a way to say thank you to all the volunteers, runners and families who are collectively working to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in the valley.
James Thomas from Yr Hen Blwyf said “This event is a thank you to all the support the community has given in driving forward social running in the valley.
“We wanted to do a something for the entire family and it was great to see so many generations running today. In some places there was three generations. Social running is open to all, look out for more information on our Facebook page 'Yr Hen Blwyf – the old parish running club’.”
