Join the Big Step Against Bullying sponsored 10K walk 14 July
Date published: 10/05/2018
Stand Against Bullying is part of Mental Health Matters Wales. They are currently preparing for this year's fifth annual 'Big Step Against Bullying', a 10k sponsored walk on Saturday 14 July 2018, starting in the Mental Health Matters' car park, through Bridgend town centre, Coychurch and Pencoed eventually finishing in the main arena of Bridgend Agricultural Show.
Stand Against Bullying are looking for people to join them to raise funds. They are a group of young people aged 11 - 25 that have formed their own organisation to raise awareness against bullying and support other young people affected by issues of bullying.
They currently meet once a month and after the initial committee meeting, they run a youth club 'Unlimited', for its members and young people with low self-esteem and confidence from the effects of bullying, that otherwise may not leave the house.
They also deliver anti-bullying workshops and presentations to community groups, schools and third sector organisations and support Young Wales, a part of Children in Wales, and the Welsh Government providing workshops to gather information and improve the way bullying is dealt with, especially in schools and the community.
It is their vision for the future to employ a member of staff to work in schools, supporting the anti-bullying co-ordinators, run workshops for alleged bullies and their targets and provide training to schools, youth groups and other community organisations to provide more effective methods of dealing with it.
All monies raised from their sponsored walk will go to Stand Against Bullying, a part of Mental Health Matters Wales.
