Greggs Foundation accepting applications for Environmental Grants in 2018
Date published: 05/01/2018
Grants: up to £2,000
Deadline 9 March 2018
The Greggs Foundation is currently accepting applications from local not-for-profit organisations and schools that have a Greggs shop in their region and need funding for an environmental project that benefits their community.
The Greggs Foundation uses the money raised from the 5p levy on carrier bag sales in Greggs shops to provide grants of up to £2,000 to not-for-profit organisations in Great Britain for projects that make a difference to the quality of life of people who live in neighbourhoods near a Greggs shop.
The funding is for projects that improve the physical environment in a way that also benefits the wider community. There are seven local charity committees that meet regularly to review local applications.
Preference is given to projects which include one of more of the following:
- Improves the local environment;
- Insures involvement of local communities;
- Delivers a sustainable and measurable difference;
- Supports people in need.
Grants can cover the purchase of equipment, sessional salary costs, purchase of trees/plants, small capital projects and learning activities. The Greggs Foundation is also interested in new approaches and innovative ideas as well as sustainable approaches to supporting local environments.
Although any not-for-profit organisation can apply, preference will be given to small, locally based and community led organisations with a turnover not in excess of £300,000 per annum. Priority will be given to organisations that are based near a Greggs shop.
Schools are also encouraged to apply providing the project is accessible to the community outside of school hours. Schools are given the same level of priority as small locally based organisations.
Please note that this is a highly competitive grant scheme with only 40% of eligible applicants receiving funding in 2017.
There are normally two funding rounds per year. Organisations may apply only once per calendar year for this funding.
The first 2018 deadline for applications is 9 March 2018.
