Valleys to Coast work closely with organisations to deliver the best community engagement in the Bridgend posterarea, enabling them to collaboratively work and communicate with all the relevant teams to overcome barriers and issues in the communities of Bridgend.

By understanding and identify current issues in the communities of Bridgend at Valleys to Coast, they aim to provide homes for thriving communities and provide the necessary support to all communities of Bridgend to make their homes and areas a safe place to live in.

From their previous projects and engagement, they have decided to liaise with ‘Street games’  which is a charity that was set up by half a dozen organisers of neighborhood sports projects. In 2005, they came together to make sport more widely available for disadvantaged young people and to maximize the power of sport to change young lives and to change disadvantaged communities. Sport changes communities by educating and providing healthy, active communities and safer and  stronger communities.

Valleys to Coast has decided to work with Street Games to deliver the  Doorstep Sport Clubs Scheme which is the creation of fun, informal sports club that operate at the right time, in the right place and in the right style. A Doorstep Sport Club provides a vibrant and varied sporting offer to young people in disadvantaged communities that is designed to grow their motivation and ability to adopt a sporting habit for life.

Doorstep Sport Clubs exist in many different forms and are hosted by different types of organizations. However, at their core, they provide young people aged 16-25 years living in areas of high deprivation with accessible and affordable opportunities to take part in sport within their local community. Providing vibrant, varied, fun and sociable sessions, with a strong emphasis on youth leadership.

Valleys to Coast is offering youths aged 16 + to take part in a coaching and leadership workshop programme for FREE with complimentary training pack, equipment, resources and certificates.

From the scheme, neighbourhoods would benefit highly as young people volunteer would take the lead in organizing sport where they live and this will ultimately strengthen communities and improve life chances.

Street games has proved that the housing association liaison works to overcome huge community down falls such as anti-social behavior, noise nuisance and theft.

Young people are the future of the communities Valleys to Coast seek to help. StreetGames’ work has proven that young people have energy, talent and a desire to improve their lives.
